IEC 61850 Training & Workshop

Triangle MicroWorks is hosting free training sessions on IEC 61850 that will cover a variety of topics for both utility engineers and equipment manufacturers.

The training will include both lecture time and also hands-on examples using software tools to reinforce important concepts. 

Topics will include an overview of the different parts of the standard, example applications, Client/Server communications, GOOSE, Sampled Values, System Configuration Language (SCL), and testing features.

Breakfast & Lunch will be provided.

7 PDHs(Professional Development Hours) will  be earned for attending this class. 

Note: this free training is the day before the PAC World Americas Conference which includes presentations on multiple topics related to substation protection, automation, and control.

IEC 61850 Basic Training

9AM to Noon
This session will cover topics such as:

- Benefits of 61850
- Digital Transformation of Automation
- Applications such as Synchrophasor, Automation, & SCADA
- Integration Patterns, i.e. Client/Server, Publish/Subscribe (GOOSE & SV)
- Overview of Parts, Objects and Services

IEC 61850 Hands On Workshop

1PM to 4PM
This session will be a hands on workshop covering real life examples involving :

- SCL Workflow
- Demonstration of SCL Configuration
- Demonstration of Client/ Server
- Maintenance and Isolation of simulation, Test mode (Mod and Beh) and Hierarchies of LDs
- GOOSE - subscription and signal along with a demonstration

Joel Greene - Triangle MicroWorks, Inc.

Background Overview
Mr. Greene has worked with communication protocols for over 15 years with the last 6 years in the power industry. He is the lead engineer for IEC 61850 development & products at Triangle MicroWorks and is heavily involved with 61850 industry groups. Specifically, he is a member of the IEC TC57 WGs 10, 15,17, 61850 Editors group and UML task force. He works as the co-editor of IEC 61850-7.2. He is a member of the UCA Test Committee and Test Procedures Working Group and involved in IEE Standard Association.
